STARTING A FAMILY

Maybe you have just got married or have young children. Maybe you are just planning to do either or both of these. Perhaps, you are thinking that you must do something "financially sensible" but you are not sure what!

Does this sound familiar?

What questions might you be considering?

  • The family's financial protection?

    • Who is at risk if one of the income generators were to die?

    • Or, who is at risk if one of the income generators were to be unable to work over long term?

These questions are developed in the Protecting yourself and your family's Financial well being?

  • Where are we going to live?

You may want to move now or save up towards the deposit on a family home. It will assist you if you get a clear idea now, how much you can borrow with your current incomes and how much the loan repayments will cost. See the Moving House? and Mortgages sections

  • What about our children's education?
    • Are we thinking of private school?

    • Would that be for Nursery, Primary or/and Secondary education?
    • Do we know which school, do we know the current fee levels?
    • What about University fees and living costs?
    • Do you plan to fund from income or is there a capital sum available?
The key here is to find out what the costs are, when the funds are required and then plan an effective use of your available resources.

These are some of the questions that you might consider. However, your financial adviser is trained and experienced in the interview process to bring out all the issues in order to make sure that you focus on the issues that really matter to you and your family.

You can then make a proper financial strategy and not just worry about it.
